Net Shops are unique to Hastings and were originally used by fishermen to store their fishing gear. Dry storage was especially important in the old days when nets and ropes were made from natural materials and would rot if left outside. The Net Shops are tall and narrow because when they were first built in the early Victorian period the sea came much closer to the cliff so each shed was allowed only a small space by the Hastings corporation.   Send a comment
